Hungarian National Ballet

Modern Ballet Evening in Two Acts

The Girls in Focus evening of the Hungarian National Ballet offers a selection from the gems of modern repertoire, placing the ballerinas in the limelight – their versatility, strength, and sensitivity. Hans van Manen’s sensitive pas de deux the Trois Gnossiennes is followed by The Games of Troy – originally choreographed for male dancers – performed by the Company’s “amazons,” showcasing their aptitude to cope with the difficulties of moves intended for men. Falling Angels, the subsequent piece, is a compelling choreography demonstrating the connections between the challenges of being female and the unrelenting strife of ballerinas to attain perfection. The evening is concluded by Five Tangos, another fiery piece created by Manen, to Piazzolla’s magnificent score.
