William Shakespeare-Felix Mendelssohn: A Midsummer Night's Dream

Kulcsár Noémi Tellabor, Gyulai Várszínház

Dance Play

One of Shakespeare’s most well-known comedies is also a bittersweet drama about the nature of love. Different couples get lost in an enchanted forest, one love gives way to another, and in all this chaos love is nothing but dependence, an antidote to loneliness. In Noémi Kulcsár’s choreography, all the characters of A Midsummer Night's Dream appear on stage, including the lovers, Theseus and Hippolyta, Oberon, and Titania, as well as the craftsmen and the naughty Puck.   Shakespeare’s characters come alive in the contemporary, modern interpretation of today’s dance, while they are chasing each other over hedges and ditches, through dreams and nightmares to Felix Mendelssohn’s masterpiece of the same title.
