Carmen

Dunaújvárosi Bartók Táncszínház

Dance Play

Georges Bizet’s renowned opera inspired the autumn premiere of the Bartók Dance Theatre. However, our story is not set in historic Seville, but in present day Hungary. Our hero is a girl: Carmen, who was born free and shall die free. “She had enormous eyes. Beautifully shaped, black. Her perfect skin was like the copper; her lips a little staunch, but beautiful, showing her white teeth, which were like blanched almonds. She had lots and lots of hair, blueish black like the wings of a raven. She was a bewildering, savage beauty, once seen never forgotten. But mainly the look in her eyes ... her sensual and wild look ...

I stabbed her twice. She collapsed without a sound after the second one. I can still see her big eyes as they looked at me. As the light in them faded and they closed.”
