One Hundred Years of Solitude

Budapest Táncszínház

One Hundred Years of Solitude carries on going down the same path we began with My Daughter, Anne Frank. It is a family saga, starting with leaving of the homeland, finding a new home and settling there. The main drives which help the Buendías live on and reproduce are love and desire. Only Ursula, the mother of the family suspects that the family members’ physical and mental repetitions will lead nowhere and the solitude that is caused by the male family members’ inability to love is passed on from father to son and leads all of them to ruin. Marquez gives the following response to this social solitude, which cannot be described as a problem typical of Latin American countries or of the twentieth century: the only right way is culture, history, and getting closer to each other. This is the response we represent with our performance.
